Vite Cowl Infinity Scarf

In case you hadn’t noticed, I am obsessed with knitted scarves!

I found this new scarf pattern on Pinterest and was off to Hobby Lobby to find some bulky yarn to knit it.  It is a longer infinity scarf than I have made previously (the one in the picture is doubled) but it looked so soft and warm!

The Pinterest scarf knitted with this pattern, is made with a solid colored yarn and using that you can see the pattern in the knit better, but I am so interested by yarns that contain multiple colors, and this cream, black, and gray combination seemed like it could be worn with so many different things.

Using one skein of yarn (4 oz, 121yds) made a scarf that, when I blocked it, was about 64″ long.  For this pattern you really need to block it because the pattern causes the scarf to wave and curl, so if you want to see the pattern, blocking is the only way.   Since it is so long, I will wear it doubled up. This scarf was originally created by Kristi Johnson at Shalimar Yarns and I found it on Pinterest.  I am providing the pattern here but searching Pinterest for Vite Cowl or using the link in this blog will take you to the original one.  There were several stitch abbreviations that I wasn’t quite sure about.  Thank goodness for Google and You Tube!  I was able to look up the abbreviation and watch how it was done!  Of course if you have any questions or problems making this, don’t hesitate to ask and I will do my best to help you!

I was given this pattern by a friend who found it on Ravelry. Beginning it before bedtime was a mistake because the abbreviations were a pain. I had to look them up, as well. The pattern I received missed the part about repeating the 24 lines, so I looked on Ravelry where it also seemed to say each piece of 24 would be done separately. I was relieved to find your instructions calling for the 24 line repeat. Thank you for being more specific.

  2. Hi there,
Im not a complete beginner, and have been knitting for the past couple years, but even this pattern has me baffled. Have started it about 3 times before giving up, last night. I think maybe I should Google the entire row of stitches for a How To, rather than just the one that I dont recognize lol Somehow, I end up with 1 additional stitch, and I think its the YO with the Pearling in a row where its also with Kniting that has me confused… ah the joys of being a Novice!

    • Ha! Don’t give up! I think when I made this I took it out several times before I got the pattern right. One time I remember knitting in the car and I got about 15 rows done before I spread it out and figured out I was knitting and purling on the wrong sides! Nightmare! But I really love this pattern and the scarves I have made from it. Once you get it, it will be gorgeous!

Thank you so much for your write up on this pattern…I know know I am not losing my mind! that SSK stitch was totally messing me up but once I saw the You Tube video I can proceed (for the third time) to start this scarf!

How many times are we repeating the 24 rows?

  5. When you do yo after a knit stitch to begin a second knit stitch I get confused
I keep ending up with the wrong number of stitches. Am I increasing or decreasing or remaining at 18.

    • Hi Jennifer! This is the you tube video that explains a yo between two knit stitches. I hope that helps! https://youtu.be/y_tXs7rGPEQ I’ll get check the pattern tomorrow and give you an answer on the increase or decrease question. I haven’t made this scarf in awhile!

I'd love to hear what you think!
